Legionaries, Heavy Axemen and Darkhans tend to be the top dogs in terms of shielded heavy infantry. Legionaries if you want the heaviest armour and a deadly throwing weapon. Heavy Axemen for javelins, heavy armour and big shields. Darkhans for a spear that can be thrown and heavy armour. No noble melee infantry at all.
